Trusted disabled adaptations contractor in London.

Disabled adaptations require more than construction competence. They require sensitivity, clear communication and an understanding of the assessment and grant process that surrounds them. RCB has experience delivering adaptations funded through the Disabled Facilities Grant process and privately commissioned by families.

We work alongside councils, registered providers, occupational therapists and individuals to ensure that adaptations are built to the correct specification, delivered with minimum disruption to the occupant and signed off in a way that satisfies the approving authority.

Whether the referral comes through a council OT, a private occupational therapist or directly from a family managing a loved one's care needs, RCB brings the same approach: professional delivery, clear communication and a finished adaptation that works for the person using it.

How It Works

The RCB process for this service.

01

Referral & Assessment

For DFG-funded works, the process begins with a council referral and occupational therapist assessment. The OT produces a specification of adaptations required. RCB works to that specification.

02

Scope & Quotation

RCB produces a detailed scope of works and quotation aligned with the OT specification and council requirements. For private commissions, we produce our own scope based on a site survey and discussion with the occupant and family.

03

Grant Approval & Instruction

For DFG works, the council approves the grant and instructs RCB to proceed. We liaise directly with the council's grants team to manage paperwork and approval milestones throughout.

04

Installation & Handover

Works are carried out with minimum disruption to the occupant. RCB's operatives are briefed on the sensitivity of working in an occupied home with a person with disability or care needs. A formal handover is completed with the occupant and any relevant parties.

!

Planning & Regulations

Disabled adaptations funded through the Disabled Facilities Grant must meet the specification approved by the council and occupational therapist. All plumbing and electrical works are carried out by qualified trades and certified accordingly. Where structural alterations are required, Building Regulations notification is made as appropriate. RCB carries full public liability and employers liability insurance.

FAQs

Common questions.

What is the Disabled Facilities Grant?

The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is a means-tested grant from your local council that funds adaptations to help disabled people remain in their own home. It covers works such as level access showers, ramps, stairlifts and door widening. Eligibility and grant levels vary by council. The process begins with a referral to the council's occupational therapy team.

Do you work directly with councils and OTs?

Yes. RCB is experienced in working within the DFG process — liaising with council grants teams, working to OT specifications and meeting the documentation and sign-off requirements that councils require at completion. We understand the process and manage it on behalf of the applicant where possible.

Can we commission adaptations privately without going through the council?

Yes. Many families choose to commission adaptations privately either because the DFG process takes time or because the grant does not cover all the works they need. RCB delivers privately commissioned adaptations to the same standard. We carry out our own survey and produce a specification based on the occupant's needs.

How long do adaptations typically take?

A wet room installation typically takes 5–10 working days. A stairlift installation is usually 1–2 days. More complex adaptations involving structural changes or multiple elements may take 2–4 weeks. The DFG process itself — from referral to grant approval — can take several months depending on the council. RCB will give you an honest programme at survey stage.

Do your operatives have experience working with vulnerable occupants?

Yes. RCB's operatives are briefed on the particular care and sensitivity required when working in an occupied home where the occupant has a disability or care need. We work at a pace and in a manner that respects the occupant's routine and comfort throughout.
